TeamLab Planets in Tokyo is one of many interactive exhibits around the world. Broken into 4 distinctive areas; Water, Garden, Forest, and Open Air.
Tickets
You’ll definitely want to reserve tickets in advance if you have a specific time you’d like to visit as this is a wildly popular spot. Tickets are available through Viator, Klook or directly on the official website. We paid around $31 USD/person in 2025. There is a ‘premium’ skip-the-line ticket that is approximately double the price of regular admission. This allows you to enter at any time during your ticketed day. If you purchase a regular timed-entry ticket, be aware that you will wait outside in a queue, so dress appropriately based on the weather. The official website states you could need to wait 30-60 minutes to enter the venue. Our experience was that as soon as our timeslot started, we were able to enter but if there were a large number of people entering with the premium pass at the same time, it could delay your entry.
When to visit
A lot of reviews will recommend visiting at the first time slot of the day to avoid the crowds. While this isn’t bad advice, we would recommend going in one of the later nighttime slots (after dark). The Open Air installations are lit at night, making them even more visually appealing. Plus, if you visit during the humid summer months, you’ll be glad that you are waiting in line under the dark skies and not blazing sun.

What to expect
When you enter the venue, you’ll be able to choose the order in which you visit the areas. The flexibility is great but also means that people are just wondering around everywhere which can be a bit much. We decided to start with the Water area. There are lockers in which to store your shoes and bags. If you choose to go into this area you will want to wear something near/above the knees (depending on your height) as you literally walk through water. Ladies, make sure to wear shorts and not a skirt as there are mirrors on the floor in some areas.

The nice thing about this venue is that it is self-paced for the most part. There are a few sections where staff will instruct you to keep walking as the area is narrow and they want to keep people moving through. If you have balance issues, you will want to be extra careful in the ‘athletic forest’ area as there are uneven surfaces and it is fairly dark. This area is especially good for kids as there is a trampoline exhibit and plank rope bridge obstacle that was fun.
The Floating Flower Garden was tricky for us. We didn’t realize that the orchids lift as they sense motion. Apparently, we were impatient and didn’t wait long enough for them to move. Instead, we crawled through some of the space LOL. The idea is to make you feel as if you are completely part of the garden (not like the orchids are attacking you which is how we felt!).

We spent approximately 2 hours here and felt that was a good amount of time to see all of the exhibits without feeling rushed. Have you visited a TeamLab location? We’d love to check out the other locations in Japan and beyond. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
